Significant Activities

A key piece of our work is providing employment opportunities, particularly for young people through our Apprenticeship and Work Experience schemes but also for others looking to return to work after periods of unemployment. We currently employ four apprentices working across our warehouse, shops and in our office. We are working with Horsham District Council (HDC) to expand the WISH (Work Information and Support Hub) Job Club Programme from Billingshurst into other towns and villages across the District.

As part of the West Sussex Local Assistance Network we are able to provide a wide selection of furniture, white goods and other household items as well as cots, prams and other essential baby equipment. We are happy to help anyone who is in crisis, whether they make contact directly or are referred to us by another organisation. We are able to provide fuel top-ups, help with emergency transport and access to food.

Our Community Fund has made donations of £195,000 in the last five years to a wide range of organisations including the Phoenix Stroke Club, Shelley School, Forest School, Age UK, West Sussex Mediation Service, Springboard, Billingshurst and Henfield Community Partnerships and many others.

In partnership with HCT we manage the delivery of the Horsham Churches Night Shelter. This project provides a meal and accommodation for up to ten homeless guests each night throughout the coldest months of the year.

As part of the Trussell Trust network of foodbanks we run the Horsham District Foodbank with three outlets in Horsham and one in Storrington. We also hold emergency food boxes in Billingshurst, Henfield and Upper Beeding. Anyone referred to the foodbank can receive a nutritionally balanced food parcel containing food for three days.

We support other local organisations in two different ways – through the provision of goods and through our Community Fund. We have given books to a local National Trust property to sell in their second-hand store; toys and sport equipment from Sussex to Africa; and clothes to a number of organisations supporting refugees and others in need overseas.

We are working closely with a number of partners including the County, District, Parish and Neighbourhood Councils, YMCA Downslink, churches and Sussex Police to address the needs of young people in our local community. We support the Youth Support Team, working with young people in parks and open spaces during summer evenings and in schools.

Our Community Youth Work project is working with Parish and Neighbourhood councils across the Horsham District to provide opportunities that encourage young people to have fun in a safe environment; to grow and develop social skills; to participate positively in their local community; and to achieve their highest potential. Our aim is to support them as they transit into adulthood.

We are extremely grateful to all our customers who donate and buy our furniture and the volunteers who support us tirelessly. Without you none of this would be possible,
