The Trust owes its origins to Miss Elizabeth Gatford who, by her will dated in 1790, left:

‘Unto Ministers and Deacons of the General Baptist Church in Horsham the sum of Five Pounds Five Shillings a year… every Sabbath to be laid out in Bread and to be put upon a shelf fixed in front of my seat in this place of worship and to be given to the poor of the before mentioned church’

The General Baptist Church is now the Unitarian Church in Worthing Road and since the money remaining in the Trust was no longer generating sufficient income the trustees have taken the decision to wind it up in favour of the foodbank.
